
Jambi Province is one of tourism destination in Indonesia. It is located in the middle of Sumatra Island, with total area of about 5,343,700 hectares. The area is bordered by West Sumatra in the west, South Sumatra in the south, Riau in the north, Berhala Strait and Southern China Sea in the east. Jambi province consists of 9 regencies and one municipality; they are: Kerinci regency, Merangin, Sarolangun, Muaro Bungo, Tebo, Muaro Jambi, Tanjung Jabung Barat, Tanjung Jabung Timur, and Jambi municipality.
The sparsely-inhabited province of Jambi comprises a lowland basin of dense jungles, peat bogs and swamps – all of it drained by a single river, the mighty Batanghari and its tributaries. Batanghari is Sumatra’s longest river, rises on the slopes of Mt. Rasam (2585 m) in West Sumatra and flows eastward for some 800 km to the straits of Malacca.
This province called “the land of Sepucuk Jambi Sembilan Lurah” is endowed with great natural resources and cultural heritages. The natural resources with wealthy biodiversity are represented in four national parks such as Kerinci Seblat National Park, Berbak National Park, Bukit Dua Belas National Park, and Bukit Tiga Puluh National Park. Each of the national parks has own characteristic and typical biodiversity. Besides the natural resources with various natural tourism objects, Jambi is also well known as the origin of various cultural and historical tourism attractions especially for the Melayu Culture.
Jambi’s inhabitants are very mixed, concentrated in a few major towns along the rivers. About 1000 Kubu people inhabit the forests. The Kubu people are Southern Sumatra’s original inhabitants, who wandered in the jungle, lived in simple huts and foraged for food. As traditional hunters and gatherers, they have inhabited the lowland tropical rain forests of Jambi and South Sumatra provinde for centuries.
Jambi is more accessible now for traveler. Traveler can get Jambi by plane, ship, fery, and car. There are 6 daily flight departing and arriving Jambi. It will take 60 minutes flight from Jakarta, 15 minutes from Palembang and 60 minutes from Batam Island, as well as from Singapore. Traveling by boat or Ferry is also easy accessing Jambi from Batam, it is 5 hour from Batam and 7 hour from Malaysia. To see and experienced land traveling, its 6 hours from Palembang, 8 hours from Padang, 10 hours from Bengkulu.
